Will Smith is unrepentant over an "awkward" incident when he lashed out at a Ukrainian TV reporter who attempted to kiss him at the Moscow premiere of Men In Black III.

The actor lost his cool when a male journalist tried to land a smooch on his lips before a pre-screening interview last week and gave the man a light backhanded slap on the face before moving on down the red carpet.

However, Smith appeared to have no regrets when he was questioned about the incident during an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday.

He told the host, "We're doing an interview and he says, ‘I’m you’re biggest fan, can I have a hug?’ So I go to give this joker a hug, and he tries to lean in and kiss me! It's just awkward.

"They were saying, 'We're sorry, that's just his schtick'. Well that’s why his a** got schtuck."
